Caledonia, You’re Calling Me

[l1]I[/l1] don’t know if you can see
The changes that have come over me
In these last few days I’ve been afraid
That I might drift away

So I’ve been telling old stories, singing songs
That make me think about where I came from
And that’s the reason why I seem
So far away today

[az]B002PQ7JT2[/az]Homesickness for places I wasn’t born, some I’ve never been to, seems to be my lot. I’ve ached for Ireland for all the years since we came back to America, and now I’m obsessed with Dougie MacLean’s Caledonia—the song and the place.

The ancient Roman name for Scotland flows more poetically in song. A love song for home should flow, I think.

I have moved and kept on moving
Proved the points that I needed proving
Lost the friends that I needed losing
Found others on the way

We keep moving, trading old for new, dreams for memories, security for hope. Will I ever be who I dreamt of being?
