A little music today.
Though I love Dwight Yoakam’s cover with Pete Anderson raging out a 3-minute solo to finish the song, there’s nothing like The Blasters.
This is my kind of music: growling gravelly vocals, bass and drums stomp stomp stomp, and a guitar that slams you against the wall and keeps kicking till you’re down.
That’s what you get when you blend growing up with Jimmie Rodgers and Hank Williams with discovering Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple in your teens.
I could do this all day. My kind of stuff. Thanks for the video. Love it!!!
There’s a video of just Phil and Dave doing acoustic versions of some Big Bill Broonzy songs. When they played electric, Phil sang, Dave played lead guitar. In that clip I discovered Dave also has a great voice, and Phil is a great blues guitarist.
I’m with you—I saw the Blasters in LA long, long ago (and saw Dave Alvin and the Guilty Ones long years after that), and those guys cranked. Great, gritty rootsy stuff, with a tinge of humor too.
Music needs more humor.
